Homestuck cosplayer threat- think rationally.
So everyone is freaking out about an alleged violent threat made against Homestuck cosplayers at conventions
You and I both are like “ohfuckohfuckfuckfuck.” Okay, now take a deep breath.
The tumblr user who originally raised the alarm here in that original post, received only the information that A) an unverifiable threat has been going around calling for people to attack Homestuck cosplayers who are alone or in groups of less than three. B) Unspecified conventions (Naka Kon the only confirmed one from the texts) have considered the threat serious enough to hire more security.
“I was contacted by a friend of mine over facebook who was concerned for my safety because I’m a homestuck cosplayer. Over facebook he proceeded to tell me how another good friend of mine was talking to a mutual friend of ours who runs and helps with Naka who told her of the threat to tell others because of the threat they proceeded to hire more security.
You guys.
At this point, this information does not add up to a valid reason to cancel your cosplay. Wait until some primary evidence of the threat appears or the convention organizers themselves issue a statement before panicking.
To me, this looks like a case of confusion and misunderstanding, or someone’s hoax. (while certainly not pointing fingers at anyone in particular) We’ll see.
this is what i’m talking about. its like every little flame here always sets off a big fire. think rationally, people! of course you should be safe, as always, but dont get people riled up/terrified over some claims. always check for a source, always find the information yourself, always make your own connections. don’t let anyone do it for you.

so today i was at the zoo with my boyfriend and i was wearing my aradia shirt and he was wearing his sollux shirt and we sat down to eat and this guy came up to us and said “congratulations on the homestuck!”
and he was super nice and it seriously made my day like omg
I’m going to start using this as a fandom introduction line. Like, rather than screaming “HOMESTUCK” at someone, you just politely say “Congratulations on the homestuck” when you see someone wearing fandom swag.
Poor Gamzee.
I’ve historically been ambivalent towards Gamzee at best. He’s gone from “mildly amusing stoner” to “wtf are you doing” to this.
I still feel kinda sorry for him, though - he’s pathetic.

i really don’t want homestuck to end. i mean it really scares me. I love it so much, and if the fandom slowly starts to die, portlandstuck ends and homestucks no longer dominate the population at cons, I will break down and cry. I’m not kidding. at all.
To be honest, I don’t think the groups around Homestuck will end. Over the what, almost two years we’ve been together? We’ve all become pretty damn good friends. Even without Homestuck, I’ll certainly keep in touch with the IRL Midnight Crew members, the mods, and more than a couple of awesome people I know in WAStuck.
Sure, the occasional person might drift away from the fandom (for instance, the really hardcore cosplayers who seem to needto do something new,) but friendships don’t really dissolve just because onething goes away. People were awesome without Homestuck - that was just the catalyst that brought those awesome people together.
